Watermelon Butterfly

I watched a You Tube video by Jan B Cards recently.  She is an independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  The card she made was so beautiful that I wanted to duplicate it exactly.

Well, almost exactly.  I used a different sentiment but otherwise it's the same.  It's a big card, 6x6.  It starts out with a Whisper White card base.  A panel of Watermelon Wonder card stock is cut 5 3/4 x 5 3/4.  I embossed the panel with a new folder from SU called Fluttering.

You can see in this close up how pretty but subtle the raised butterflies are.  I cut a circle from Early Espresso and another smaller circle from from pattern paper.  Now the real star of this card is the butterfly.

There are two layers, the bottom one is a solid die that is stamped using Watercolor Wings.  There are actually 3 stamps that create the look and depth of a real butterfly, even though I took creative license with the colors.  The top butterfly is cut with an intricate die that complements the solid layer.

After stamping the body in espresso ink, I covered it with Glossy Accents which made it raised when it dried.  I then used a Wink of Stella pen to add shine.  It was a time consuming card to make but so very elegant.  I have a special person that I'm giving it to.

Susie and Allison, thinking of you!
