I'm very excited to show you the art journal page I put together for March using one of the Julie Nutting doll stamps. Her name is Megan and I decided to design a spring theme page around her. I'm making each page 6" x 9" and using canvas paper as the base layer. I always start with the background. I rummaged through my stash of pattern papers and ran across a piece that was perfect. It is a blue green pattern with white clouds and bright kites flying in the air. What could be more spring like? I adhered a blue harlequin strip on the top and bottom to sort of enclose the scene. I angled the bottom strip to resemble small hills and stamped a design.
Now I was ready to get Megan dressed. These doll stamps do not have defined faces so I think it's fun to use paper with tiny text for her whole body. I used some Copic markers to highlight her skin a bit more and also colored her hair. I found some papers with some of the background colors and stamped the doll again on each separate paper. I cut out the stamped dress pieces and glued them on top the stamped plain doll.
I have a kite die cut and made the base from the text paper. I then cut out more pieces of the kite using the same papers as her dress. I had some navy ribbon that I cut in half and attached it to the kite for a tail, adding bows, and winding it around her arm. She doesn't have a care in the world as her kite is flying high and she is so pretty.
I also paper pieced her boots. I didn't choose the sentiment until I finished the page. I was looking at my options and when I ran across this one, I knew it was perfect.
I think I say this every time but Megan is my new favorite doll page.
The pressure is on. I must get busy and work on my April and May doll pages. Sigh! If only I didn't have to do laundry, make dinner, clean the house, etc. Any volunteers?
