Winter Is For The Birds

I'm not really one to be a spoil sport but here's how I really feel.  Winter is for the birds!!!  It is just so cold, and bleak, and cold, and snowy, and cold.  Anyone with me to head to the beach with lots of sun, sand and pretty blue waters?  Alas, it is not to be, at least not THIS year.  From The Heart Stamps has the perfect digital image that reflects my thinking today.  It's called "For the Birds" and includes a sweet, happy snowman and a sentiment.

Christmas Digital Stamp

I created the background using Ranger Distress Inks.  When I got it to my liking, I printed the snowman right on my altered paper.  I colored in certain areas with Distress Markers.  I used white glue with a fine tip to fill in the snowman's body.  I was careful not to include the facial features and buttons when I was applying the glue.  I sprinkled an ultra fine glitter, Elizabeth Crafts Cool Diamond, and it covered the glue areas perfectly.

I wanted the hat trim to have some sparkle but really liked the look of the background showing through so I used a clear Wink of Stella glitter marker.  I think he is the jazziest snowman ever!  I printed the sentiment to just the size I needed to fit inside one of the cloud die cuts.  I popped the clouds up to give a little dimension to the card.

Hope you enjoyed my winter fun card.  The bus is leaving for the beach!

From the Heart Sketch #44

I needed an anniversary card for a special couple and when I saw this week's sketch at From the Heart Stamps I knew it would be the blueprint for my card.

Sketch044

I turned the sketch sideways because it fit the idea I had for my card.  I started with pure white cardstock and made it 5 1/2 x 4 1/4, A2 size.  Red is their favorite color so I used it as the first layer and mat.  Ok, who doesn't like glitter and this silver paper is very sparkly.  I had some Memory Box dies that I was itching to use so they became the focal point of the sentiment.  A simple happy anniversary statement stamped in black ink is the focus of the card.

I came across these little velvet brads and knew they were the finishing touch to a beautiful card.  I don't think you can tell but I used a superfine white diamond glitter around the white oval mat.

Everyone who participates in the weekly sketch challenge gets $1 to buy the cutest digital images.  You have until Sunday at 10pm CST to enter so get busy!  I'm heading over to FTHS facebook page to get a sneak peek at next week's sketch.

Thanks for stopping by!

November Stamp of the Month-Balloon Ride

Hi everyone.  Sorry I haven't written a post for a few weeks.  I had an operation and was in the hospital for 4 days.  I'm doing fine but it's a slow process.  Any little task saps my energy.  Since I've had some down time I did get a few chances to work in my craft room.  From The Heart Stamps has the cutest image for November and I had the perfect opportunity to use it for my project.

Balloon Ride

Did you know you could get this digital stamp for FREE!  Here's the details.

This is a progressive challenge, meaning you need to play along to receive the next image for free, so be sure to read the rules so that you don’t miss out on any freebies.  Want some FREE digi stamps? My granddaughter recently moved and I am missing her like crazy.  She found a teller position at a credit union and has just started her training.  I am very, very, very proud of her.  She is smart, caring and level-headed.  I know she will go far in her life.  So, to let her know how I feel, I made this card.

Purple is her favorite color so I started with my Balloon Ride image and some feminine papers.  She is also a bling girl so I added a strip of silver glitter paper and topped it with two strips of raspberry glitter paper.  I had a ball coloring the balloons and mice.

I don't know if you can tell from the photo but after I colored the balloons with various shades of purple I ran some diamond Stickles on top.  It ties the paper to the image and besides you can never have enough sparkle in your life.

I have a wonderful surprise inside the card but I don't want to give it all away because she hasn't received it in the mail yet.

Congratulations, my sugar girl!

Buckets of Love

I'm participating in this week's challenge at From The Heart Stamps.  Each week a card sketch is provided.  If you link up your project to the blog you have an opportunity to win money to spend on stamps.  How fun is that?  Here is the sketch for this week.

Card Sketch Challenge Pattern no. 39

My dad was here this past week visiting from Florida.  We had a really nice time and did lots of fun things.  He's almost 88 and walks 3 miles a day, 6 days a week.  It's been cool here in the mornings and he is glad to be back in the warmer weather.  It was a challenge for him to walk in 40 degree temperatures.  He bought us a special gift and I wanted to make him a card to show our appreciation.

This sea turtle image is so cute.  I colored it up and added a sentiment from a different stamp.  I recolored the text before centering it under the turtles.

I die cut some waves and added 3 little fish buttons.  I purchased them at the fabric store on clearance and broke off the shank so they would lay flat.  I think they added the perfect finishing touch to the card.  I know my dad will get a big kick out of it.  He always supports the craft projects I make and tells everyone about my blog.

Sending you buckets of love Dad!!!

Harvest Medley

Every month From The Heart Stamps features a digital stamp image.  If you play along and post a project using the stamp you qualify to get the next month's stamp for FREE!  The October stamp is called Harvest Medley and is a collage of images and a sentiment.

Stamp Preview by FromTheHeartStamps

I love working with digital stamps because of the flexibility they offer.  It's so easy to resize and use the stamps no matter what your project.  I printed it on ivory cardstock and then colored it using a monochromatic palette.  I used white glue with a fine tip to mark certain areas and sprinkled it with bronze glitter.  I like the subtle effect without being overly sparkly.

I started with a card base of More Mustard 6" x 6".  I rummaged around in my scrap pile and found some leftover fall paper.  I had one long strip of the owl paper and cut it in half for the top and bottom.  I used another scrap for the middle section of the background.  "Harvest Medley" is showcased front and center of the card.

I tied a pretty striped ribbon bow around the entire front panel before attaching it to the card base.

If you don't have the image for the October challenge you can purchase it from the store, play along with the challenge and then get the November image free.

I can't wait to see what it is!

Just Us Girls: Color Challenge

I'm entering a challenge this week at Just Us Girls.  Aren't these colors yummy!  They remind me of the ocean, the beach, the sand, the waves.  My favorite place in the whole world is standing in the sand on a beach, looking out over the water.  It's so calm and soothing.  Here's the card I made.

I needed a thank you card for my best friend and blue is her favorite color.  It was a no brainer to use the color palette from the challenge.  The card is 5" x 5".  I used kraft paper for my base and matted the Pool Party printed paper with Chocolate Chip.  The sentiment is stamped and then embossed with Pool Party embossing powder.  I tucked a double layer of funky scallops down the side and added a dimensional flower sticker.

I know my friend will love the card and the pretty colors.  Have a great day!

From The Heart Sketch No. 37

Hi.  I'm participating in From the Heart Stamps sketch challenge again this week.  A new image was released and I had to make a card with it.  It's called Raking Leaves Birdbrains and is the perfect fall image.  So playful and cute.  I'm putting together a care package for my granddaughter and this card will make her smile.  I followed the sketch pretty close and made a 6 x 6 card.  The base is a pretty purple eggplant color and I found a scrap of fall paper that had all the colors of the season.

I added another layer of purple cardstock and matted it with mustard cardstock.  I printed the birdbrains just the size I needed and colored the image matching the other colors in the papers.  I found some stickers from My Little Bicycle and thought they fit the theme perfectly.  I finished off the upper corner with a couple of chipboard leaves and a shiny heart.  I really love how it turned out.

Head over to From The Heart Stamps and get this adorable digital image.  So much fun to work with.

Everything in my craft room is scattered just like these fall leaves.  So, I'm ready to start on a project for next week!  Thanks for stopping by.
