This one's for you, dad

My dad is a special guy.  He's almost 87 and still very spunky.  He walks 3 miles a day, 6 days a week.  He keeps busy and doesn't seem to stop all day.  He loves to talk to people.  Anyone!  He has a special joke he tells when he approaches a person.  "Do you know they're looking for you?"  "Who" the person asks.  "The squirrels.  They think you're nuts!!!"  It certainly brings a smile and a laugh.

He reads my blog so I wanted to pay a tribute to him and how special he is.  Not only to me but to all those around him who he talks to.

I couldn't believe it but out of all the stamps I have, this is the only one I have of a squirrel.  It's from a Stampin' Up! set called Love Bandit.  I made a scene with the tree, tree stump and 2 stamped squirrels.  After coloring with Copic markers I die cut a grass border and pieced it using dimensionals to pop it up.

I found some paper with leaves and the colors I needed to match my stamped image.  I printed my sentiment on Very Vanilla cardstock and chose brown ink.  By doing this on the computer you can have any saying you want, in any color and in any size.

For the inside I wanted to make it simple.  Again, I went to the computer and printed out what I wanted to say.

So Dad, I hope I've brought a smile and a laugh to your day.  Be looking for this card in the mail.  I love you bunches!

Daydream Designs Day Three

Today is the final day of Daydream Designs September Blog Hop.  I have a true fall card for you.  After all, the first day of fall is just around the corner.  I started with the Bushel and a Peck Color Set.  It comes with an empty basket, a basket of apples, a basket of leaves and a basket of gourds.  The images come in JPEG and PNG files so that they can be used in lots of fall projects.

I knew I wanted to layer the images so I began with the small basket of gourds.  I positioned it on my paper and got the size I wanted.  I then made a mirror copy and flipped it to face the opposite direction.  I layered the large basket of leaves in the center, overlapping the bottoms of the two gourd baskets.  It sounds complicated but it's actually very easy.

Really Rust is the cardstock base.  I added a few different patterned papers and left it at that.  The sentiment comes in a set called Fall is in the Air.

Such a fallish card, don't you think?

Daydream Designs Day Two

Welcome to day two of Daydream Designs September Blog Hop.  Our theme is Fall and Owls.  All the design team members have some amazing projects.  Please check the list below to their blogs and to comment as you may win a fantastic prize.  Our sponsor is:

Yesterday I showed you the note card set I made using the Owl Always Love You digi set.  It was so easy to personalize plain, white note cards with an already colored image and sentiment.  Today I'm going to show you the envelopes I made to go with the cards.  I started with printing a few of the digital papers that match the owl set.

10 different papers for $3.95.  And you never run out!!!

I made a template so I could line the envelopes.  I even cut several at once.  I used a glue stick and slipped the paper into the envelope and OWL BE.  You have envelopes that are personalized to match the cards.

Stunning, if I do say so myself.  Here's a photo of the complete set.

I originally made this as a gift but it will be hard to give away.  Wait.  I can make more!!!

Check out the projects by the other members of the design team.

Daydream Designs September Blog Hop

Welcome to the first blog hop presented by Daydream Designs!  Play along with us, have fun and win some amazing prizes.

As you've seen by now, our theme this month is Fall and Owls.  My project uses the Owl Always Love You Color Digi Set and Paper Pack.  I decided to embellish some simple white note cards and envelopes and have a unique gift for a friend.  Honestly, now that I have finished the set, I'm thinking about keeping it!

I couldn't resist the cutest owl ever with a pink outfit and bow.  I made it the main focus of the front of the card.  It was easy to make it the perfect size.  There are several sentiments included and I thought this one would fit lots of occasions. When I saw it was already colored pink I knew it was the right choice.  I used a low tack artist's tape and joined two cards together.  It ran through the printer just fine.  Wow, almost too easy!

Isn't she a hoot!!!  I printed 4 cards with this design and decided to do 4 more in a different design.  I went back into my choices in the digi set and used the tree branch.  After lining it up in the center of the design area, I resized a different owl using the PNG file so I could layer it on the top of the branch.  The sentiment was available only in black so I recolored it to match the teal green of the owl's eyes.

In tomorrow's post I will show you how I made the envelopes special and a photo of the complete set.

Now on to the prizes.  There are two ways to win.  First, by commenting on all the designers blogs, one winner will be chosen randomly to receive 1 FREE set of digital images OR paper from Daydream Designs.  Second, if you leave a comment on each blog AND participate in the blog theme to create a project for Fall or Owls and link your project at the end of this post, one winner will receive 3 FREE sets of digital images OR paper from Daydream Designs.  I don't know anyone woooooooooooo doesn't like free!  And speaking of free, Daydream Designs has contributed a free digi at the end of the post on Diane's blog!  So go back to the beginning and get your freebie.  What a wonderful time to start your journey into the world of digital scrapbooking.

The contest runs until Thursday so get busy crafting and winning!  The winners will be announced on Diane's blog so be sure to head there to see if you've won.  I will give you a few reminders too.

Daydreaming About Books

Do you have a library in your home?  Even if you don't call it a library, you probably have at least some books.  Reference, research, novels, self-help, fiction, etc.  If you're like me you treasure your books.  You take care of them.  You give them an important spot.  Well, to that end, I have a project that every book lover will enjoy.  What would happen if you lost or loaned one of your books and you never got it back?

Do you know what a bookplate is?  The official Wikipedia definition is, "a decorative label pasted into a book, often on the inside front cover, to indicate its owner".  Some examples are:

Aren't they fantastic!!!  All of these come from Daydream Designs.  Let me show you what I createdThis is the outside of the card.  I kept it simple with a pattern paper from MME called Tickled Pink and some Thickers from Amy Tangerine.

A powerful message, right?  Love it!

So, the inside of the card has a practical surprise.  A library pocket and some pretty bookplates.  The pocket template is also available at Daydream Designs and comes with several styles of library cards.

The pocket holds several  bookplates, because we all know we have more than one book in our library.  It will be a treat for my friend to use these to add a special touch to her books.  You could even print several different styles and insert them into the pocket.  So, get busy all you readers out there.  Take pride in your books and give them the honor they deserve in your library.  Add bookplates!!!

Birds That Daydream

I went all whimsical today.  The images on my card are from two digital sets from Daydream Designs.  The birds and birdhouse are from Birds and Bees Digi Set.  I started with a blank page in Publisher.  I inserted the birdhouse with the mama bird on her nest.  The papa bird on the leaf branch was a separate image.  I fit it at the bottom of the birdhouse.  The little baby bird is another separate image.  I layered it to sit on the branch between the leaves.  Clever, huh?  The birds are not really a family in the set but because I could size them the way I wanted they became a family.  You must try working with digital images.

I have always been a die hard stamp addict but this is a whole new level of creativity.  Don't fret the how to's.  An instruction sheet on working with digital images comes with every order.

The sentiment comes from a set appropriately named, Birds and Bees Sentiments.  I wanted a sun image that would go along with the encouragement of the sentiment and found just the one in another digital set called, Sunshine and Rain Color Digi Set.  Yep, the images are already colored!  No markers required.

At first I printed the sun and decided it was too large as it needed to feel part of the background.  So I resized it, made it smaller and printed it again.  Impossible with rubber stamps.  I cut out the sun and popped it up with some foam dots.  A 5 x 5 piece of More Mustard cardstock and a sheet of blue-green chevron paper from MME and the card was complete.

I've been loving all your comments.  Thank you!
